Vietnam attaches importance to strengthening relations with traditional friends, including the Czech Republic, said Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh while receiving Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek in Ho Chi Minh City on March 23.

Mr Manh thanked the former Czechoslovakia and now the Czech Government for providing assistance to Vietnam during the past struggle for national independence and in the current national construction and defence. He also thanked the Czech Government for creating favourable conditions for Vietnamese nationals to integrate well into local communities in the Czech Republic.

The Party leader expressed his hope that the multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries will further develop, particularly in the fields of economics, trade and investment.

Meanwhile, Czech PM Mirek Topolanek spoke highly of Vietnam's achievements and development experiences, as well as its increasing role and position in the region and the world. He briefed Mr Manh on the Czech Republic's situation in recent years, and affirmed that his country wants to boost traditional friendship and cooperation with Vietnam.

He pledged support for Vietnam to enhance ties with the European Union.
