"Vietnam welcomes a decision to hold the second summit between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea (RoK), considering it a positive step towards relations between the two Koreas".
The statement was made by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Dung in Hanoi on August 9 while presenting Vietnam's view on the coming summit.
Vietnam hopes that the second inter-Koran Summit will go forward as a positive contribution to enhancing reconciliation and cooperation and maintaining peace and security on the Korean peninsular and in the region. The country will support the two Koreas' efforts to deal with Korean peninsular issues through peaceful dialogues and their people's aspirations for national unification.
Vietnam is ready to make positive contributions to improving relations between the North and the South as well as promoting the peace process on the Korean peninsular, Mr Dung said.
According to plan, RoK President Roh Moo-hyun will be in Pyongyang from August 28-30 to hold talks with the DPRK's leader Kim Jong-il.
