Cuba launches programme to protect water resources

23/03/2008 -- 7:46 PM Ha Noi (VNA) - Cuba has made water resources and environment protection its environmental strategy priority in order to preserve the country's economic and social development. Cuba 's Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment said that one of its main goals is to safeguard all water zones, including rivers and coastal zones, while also improving, recovering and preserving lands and their ambits. Cuba is launching a programme to plant trees near rivers and lakes, and also at other locations with water resources, covering thousands of hectares across the country. Cuba also educates its citizens on sustainable agriculture, pollution prevention and improvement of land quality, according to news agencies.-Enditem
